What to expect

Manta Point is a cleaning station on Nusa Penida's dramatic south coast, under limestone cliffs. Manta rays hold position over the reef while cleaner wrasse pick parasites from their skin — so instead of a fly-past, you get animals that stay, circle and come back. The mantas here are also generally bigger than at Manta Bay.

The boat leaves at 09:00 and takes about 40 minutes along the cliffs. You spend the majority of the trip at Manta Point, then stop at Crystal Bay on the way home for coral, reef fish and turtles. Back at the harbour around 12:00.

This site is exposed to the open ocean and can be choppy. If you are prone to seasickness, take a tablet an hour before departure. If the harbour master closes Manta Point, the boat runs to Manta Bay instead and you are told on WhatsApp the morning of the trip.

Questions about this trip

Is Manta Point suitable for beginners?

Yes, with a life jacket and your guide beside you. The water is deeper (5–12 m) and there can be swell, so it is a little more adventurous than Manta Bay. Nervous snorkelers usually prefer Manta Bay; confident ones love Manta Point.

What happens if Manta Point is closed?

From December to February the south-coast swell is bigger and the harbour master closes Manta Point more often. In that case the boat runs the Manta Bay route instead and we refund the price difference, or you can reschedule or take a full refund.

Can I combine Manta Point and Manta Bay in one trip?

On a private charter, yes — ask us. On the shared boat the 3-hour Manta Point trip visits Manta Point and Crystal Bay.
