What to expect
Manta Bay sits in a sheltered corner of Nusa Penida's north-west coast, which is exactly why it is our most reliable site: when the south coast is closed by swell, Manta Bay still runs. Reef mantas come here to feed on plankton near the surface, so you float on top and watch them loop below you.
The boat leaves Banjar Nyuh Harbour at 09:30 or 14:00 and reaches Manta Bay in about 25 minutes. After the mantas, the captain picks two or three more stops from Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay and Wall Point depending on the current — coral gardens, clouds of anthias, and frequent green turtle sightings. You are back at the harbour two hours after you left, in time for lunch or the afternoon fast boat.
Everything is included: boat, English-speaking guide who swims with you, mask, snorkel, fins, life jacket, drinking water and the marine park fee.

Will we definitely see manta rays at Manta Bay?
Mantas are wild animals so nobody can guarantee a sighting, but Manta Bay is the most consistent site on the island and our captains see mantas on the large majority of trips year-round. If the mantas are not there, the crew will spend longer at the reef sites.
Which departure is better, 09:30 or 14:00?
Morning light is best for photos and the sea is usually calmer. The 14:00 trip suits guests arriving on the morning fast boat from Sanur and staying overnight on Nusa Penida.
Can I do this as a day trip from Bali?
Yes. Take the 07:00–08:00 fast boat from Sanur to Banjar Nyuh (about 45 minutes), join the 09:30 trip, and return on an afternoon boat. Tell us your fast boat and we will match the timing.
