Manta Bay is tucked into the north-west coast of Nusa Penida, protected from the big southern swell. Plankton concentrates here on the incoming tide and reef manta rays come to feed with their mouths open just below the surface — which puts snorkelers in the best seat in the house. Because it is sheltered, Manta Bay runs on most days when Manta Point is closed, and the crossing from Banjar Nyuh takes only about 25 minutes.

Mantas here are typically 2.5–3.5 metres across and often arrive in twos and threes. Stay still on the surface, let them come to you, and never swim into their path.
