We are a local snorkeling crew based at Banjar Nyuh Harbour on Nusa Penida. Our boats run to Manta Bay, Manta Point, Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay every morning — shared trips from IDR 200,000, private charters for your group only. Booking takes one WhatsApp message.
The boats
All trips leave from Banjar Nyuh Harbour on Nusa Penida, Bali. Shared trips join an existing boat of up to 12 guests. Private charters give your group exclusive use of the boat and a departure time you choose. All five tours are priced per person. The full day tour includes the fast boat crossing from Sanur; the other four are meet-at-venue on Nusa Penida. A car from your hotel in Bali can be added to any of them, charged per car rather than per person.

The sites
Nusa Penida has four main snorkeling sites, each with a different character. Manta Bay and Manta Point are for manta rays; Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay are for coral, reef fish and green sea turtles. Wall Point is the shallow beginner reef. Which sites a boat visits on the day depends on swell, current and the harbour master's clearance, so the crew decides the running order that morning.
A sheltered bay on the north-west coast where mantas feed near the surface. The most reliable site when the south coast is closed, and the shortest boat ride.

A cleaning station on the exposed south coast. Mantas hold position over the reef while cleaner wrasse work on them, so encounters last longer here.

I used to dive but had no chance to see manta rays but this time I got to see them together with my children and wife. I thought they would have to scuba dive but snorkelling was more accessible for us. For the island tour add on, our driver Ali was equally helpful. Some parts of the climb to see the view were steep but he was patient and encouraging, and helped watch out for our safety and also took amazing videos and photos for us. Overall please book with this operator. They are quite thorough and responsive to queries. And responsible. Attached are some complimentary GoPro shots for all group members so we could focus on the experience itself. Very thoughtful and good value for money, recommend.

Nusa Penida is generally considered the best snorkeling area in Bali. The four main sites are Manta Bay and Manta Point, where reef manta rays feed and visit cleaning stations, and Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay, which have coral gardens, reef fish and green sea turtles. All four are reached by traditional boat from Banjar Nyuh Harbour on Nusa Penida, roughly 20 to 40 minutes away. Mainland Bali also has decent snorkeling at Amed, Tulamben and Menjangan, but none of those sites offer manta rays.
Reef manta rays live around Nusa Penida all year, so there is no closed season. Sightings are most consistent from April to October, during Bali's dry season, when the sea is calmest and visibility is highest. From December to February the swell on the south coast is larger, so Manta Point is more often closed and boats run to Manta Bay instead. We tell you the honest forecast the day before rather than sending you out into a rough crossing.
Yes. Every guest wears a life jacket, all snorkeling is done from the surface with no diving involved, and a guide stays in the water with the group. Tell us when you book and a guide will stay beside you and, if you prefer, tow you on a ring buoy so you can float and watch without working. Plenty of our guests have never snorkeled before.
Shared boat trips start at IDR 200,000 per person for the two-hour Manta Bay trip and IDR 350,000 per person for the three-hour Manta Point trip. The full day tour, which includes the fast boat crossing, starts at IDR 850,000 per person. Private charters start at IDR 1,500,000 per person: you pay more per head than on a shared boat, and in return the boat carries only your group, leaves when you want it to, and stays longer at the site you like best. Hotel transfer in Bali is an optional extra on any trip, charged per car rather than per person.
Fast boats run from Sanur Harbour to Banjar Nyuh or Toya Pakeh on Nusa Penida and take about 45 minutes. The first departures are around 07:00 and the last returns leave in the late afternoon. If you book a meet-at-venue snorkeling trip, you arrange your own fast boat ticket — message us and we will tell you which departure to take so you make the boat. The full day tour includes the crossing. On any trip we can also collect you from your hotel in Bali: that is charged per car, and the pickup areas and times are listed in the booking builder.
Manta rays have no stinger and no interest in people; they are filter feeders. The real considerations are swell and current, not the animals. Trips run only when the harbour master clears conditions, every group is briefed before entry, life jackets are compulsory, and the boat stays alongside the group. Manta Point is more exposed than Manta Bay and can be choppy — if you are prone to seasickness, take a tablet an hour before departure and eat something light beforehand.
Included: the boat and fuel, an English-speaking snorkeling guide, mask, snorkel, fins, life jacket, drinking water and the marine park entry fee. Underwater GoPro photos and video are an add-on — ask in chat. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, a dry bag, a hat and your swimwear worn under your clothes, because there are no changing rooms on the boat.
If the harbour master closes the site or the crew judges the sea unsafe, we move you to a calmer site, reschedule you to another day, or refund you in full — your choice. Weather calls are made on the morning of the trip and sent to you on WhatsApp. We would rather move your trip than take you out in conditions that would ruin it.
No deposit is required — not for shared trips and not for private charters. You reserve on WhatsApp and pay on the day, in rupiah cash at the harbour, or by bank transfer or QRIS if that is easier. There are no ATMs at the harbour itself, so draw cash in Toya Pakeh or before you cross.
